July BPSL Match @ Barracks 616 - July 7, 2024

The Godspeed boys took on a 4 stage USPSA style shoot this weekend at Barracks 616. Learned a ton, had a blast, great group to shoot with and indirectly learn from. Will definitely be signing up for next month.
Stages:
1. Shoot Through The Walls
2.I Heard Bruce Likes Shooting Seated
3. This Was An Easy Reset
4. If It's Down Range, It's Gonna Get Shot
Mason:
Stage 1:
- HF: 5.86
- Time: 11.09
- A: 12
- C: 5
- D: 0
- M: 1
- Due to a combo of aggressive stage planning and hesitation in execution, I decided to go for the dual pass through headshots... a risk that paid off, kinda, but I won't try again. As a whole could have been more fluid but was a decent starter round.
Stage 2:
- HF: 1.79
- Time: 32.88
- A: 12
- C: 3
- D: 0
- M: 1
- Accuracy through volume was my game plan as I mag dumped with my right then my left hand only to get a piss-poor score... time to only practice one handed again.
Stage 3:
- HF: 6.58
- Time: 12.47
- A: 14
- C: 4
- D: 0
- M: 0
- Favorite hands down. Could have shot the second target on the move but was scared to shoot a hostage after what Noah did to that innocent man... Overall it was my favorite stage of the night.
Stage 4:
- HF: 8.23
- Time: 9.24
- A: 14
- C: 2
- D: 0
- M: 0
- BIG HESITATION, should have taken the two center targets first but took it last because I thought it would be smoother. Rest of it was smooth with an extra shot on the narrow targets to mitigate risk.
Positives:
- Shot and moved well, great people that were fun to learn from and hang with
Negatives:
- I suck at one handed shooting and need to stop hesitation when transitioning
Overall Thoughts:
- Need to run ONE plan through over and over till I could do it blind folded. I keep trying to run it differently to shave off a second, then I hesitate and lose 3 seconds. Plan as a team and repeat. Overall blast and a great crew at an event that was very well run!

Stage 1:
- HF: 2.69
- Time: 20.11
- A: 10
- C: 8
- D: 0

- Let the nerves get the best of me and absolutely obliterated a hostage's forehead. In my defense, the hostage only half had its hands up so I figured 2 in the head just to make sure it wasn't a threat was a good idea. After the hostage got its off button pushed, I felt bad and shot the rest of the stage with deep regret and condolences for its family.
Stage 2:
- HF: 2.28
- Time: 28.01
- A: 8
- C: 8
- D: 0
- M: 0
- No hostages in sight and seated in a chair shooting strong hand then weak hand. Went into it expecting my weak hand to fail me, but I surprised myself. I shot slow but pretty accurate. Finished the stage about as happy as I could be. Maybe it's the natural habitat of being a desk jockey that really got me in the zone.
Stage 3:
- HF: 4.62
- Time: 15.6
- A: 9
- C: 9
- D: 0
- M: 0
- This was a fun stage. Started out with a box of donuts, but sadly had to drop them right away. I took 2 makeup shots on the very first target as I couldn't tell if I hit it or not. Turns out I did. The rest of the stage I slid around and shot pretty well. Definitely time to make up if I didn't feel like I needed to plant to shoot every target and instead hit them with a drive by. All in all, probably my favorite stage of the day.
Stage 4:
- HF: 6.21
- Time: 10.63
- A: 9
- C: 7
- D: 0
- M: 0
- A very quick stage for a very slow boi. I learned that red dots are only a suggestion and don't really need to be used inside of 5 yards. Stage went well, I shot pretty fast, I didn't trip or break an ankle, was feeling good going into the last set of targets and I finished out with some quick double taps. Or so I thought.... As I was about to clear my gun I was staring at the last target with only 1 hole in it so I had to put another one in 'em to finish him off. That cost me time that I don't make up in my sorry excuse of a sprint.
Positives:
- Awesome group of guys! Loved watching so many people that are leaps and bounds better than me. I learned a lot of what I need to do differently just by watching the others. I learned a lot about shooting up close and trusting my natural point of aim. Definitely have a lot I can take away from the day and take to the practice range to improve. I will definitely be practicing shooting on the move and just trusting my shots more in general.
Negatives:
- The mental nerves for the first run of the day or even the runs after that is something I need to fix. I find myself taking it out on hostages when it isn't their fault at all. Small mistakes always cost me, limiting the mental mistakes and pushing forward after something goes wrong is my number 1 issue.
Overall Thoughts:
- Had a great time and I'm glad that I went! I can't remember the last time I shot indoors so it was great to experience a different shooting environment other than the great outdoors. The whole match was very well run and moved very quickly, which made it that much more enjoyable. Great job to Barracks 616 for running it so smoothly. The group was awesome and taught me a lot without even knowing it. I would love to run it again next month with the same group! Plus, Staccato mags didn't even have to get dirty this match! Bonus!
Nate:
Stage 1:
- HF: 1.64
- Time: 19.57
- A: 8
- C: 7
- D: 1
- M: 2
- One shot, dropped mag, should have reloaded with a belt mag instead of the one off the ground, then shot slow through the rest of the stage. Need to shoot better on the move.
Stage 2:
- HF: 0.99
- Time: 30.18
- A: 4
- C: 10
- D: 0
- M: 2
- Seated and table top start, new twist in the USPSA experience. Shot much better one handed than the last one handed stage, happy with the improvement. Could be MUCH better.
Stage 3:
- HF: 3.83
- Time: 17.48
- A: 13
- C: 4
- D: 0
- M: 1
- Felt really good about this stage. Start with donut box in hand, shot first target stationary from the start box but hit the second, happy with that decision. Rest of stage went smooth until the final shot, quick reload for one shot. Need to plan round counts better for possible reloads due to extra/makeup shots.
Stage 4:
- HF: 6.15
- Time: 10.25
- A: 14
- C: 1
- D: 0
- M: 1
- Quick stage, happy with the stage planning to shoot the 2 middle targets on the way into the stage and then focused on the first available target through the 3 targets on each side of the stage. Again, need to shoot better on the move.
Positives:
- Good overall performance for the second USPSA style shoot. Happy with the improvement in stage planning and execution to that plan. Felt that overall I improved from the last shoot, which is all I can ask for at this point.
Negatives:
- Need to practice more shooting on the move. 6 overall misses need to be fixed, can't outrun a Mike. Overall need to get more comfortable with the gun and shooting USPSA stages, aka shooting on the move.
Overall Thoughts:
- Very happy I went, great group of guys to shoot with and very well run event, quick scoring and stage resets by the group. A much higher caliber group of shooters for this event, need to work myself up to being competitive with them. Will definitely be back for the next one in August!
